Connecting with Others When Living with Parkinson's

Connecting with Others When Living with Parkinson's

Many people living with Parkinson's find it helpful to connect with others who have similar experiences. These conversations can provide practical advice, new perspectives, and an opportunity to learn from people who understand the day-to-day realities of living with Parkinson's.

Parkinson's UK runs one of the largest support networks for people affected by Parkinson's. The charity supports more than 450 volunteer-led local groups across the UK, offering support for people with Parkinson's, family members, friends and carers (https://www.parkinsons.org.uk/community/groups).

Local groups provide opportunities to meet others, share experiences, learn from guest speakers and healthcare professionals, and take part in social and wellbeing activities. Parkinson's UK also offers online communities, virtual activities and a free confidential helpline (https://localsupport.parkinsons.org.uk).

Many people also connect through Parkinson's-specific exercise and wellbeing activities. Across the UK, it is possible to find dance classes, boxing sessions, table tennis groups, singing groups and exercise classes designed for people living with Parkinson's. These activities can provide both physical and social benefits.

Whether through a local support group, an exercise class, an online community, or an informal meetup, many people find that connecting with others provides opportunities to share experiences, exchange practical tips, discover local resources, and stay motivated to pursue activities they enjoy.
