Building a Knowledge Base for AI in Parkinson’s Prognostics

9 Jul 2026

Reviewing the state of the art in predicting Parkinson's disease risk, progression, and treatment response

Building AI tools for Parkinson’s disease (PD) risk prediction, progression monitoring, and treatment response modelling requires a strong scientific and data foundation.

As part of AI-PROGNOSIS, an updated review has been prepared to summarise the current research landscape, relevant digital technologies, and data sources that may support future AI model development.

The report reviews research published between 2013 and early 2025, covering Parkinson’s disease risk, progression, and response to medication. It also provides an overview of digital technologies for monitoring movement and balance in people with Parkinson’s disease.

The report includes:

  • A literature review covering PD risk, progression, and response to medication

  • An overview of relevant digital technologies for movement and balance monitoring

  • A list of datasets and biobanks containing health, digital, lifestyle, and genetic information

  • An outline of data harmonisation and curation approaches to support future AI modelling

This work provides an updated knowledge base for AI-PROGNOSIS activities and supports the project’s next steps in predictive modelling for Parkinson’s disease.
